Time trial course outlook for the Road World Championships 2025: Individual and mixed relay team time trials feature a hilly terrain

The UCI Road World Championships 2025 are set to take place in Rwanda on September 21, offering an exciting lineup of time trials and races.

The current men's elite time trial world champion is Tadej Pogačar from Slovenia. The men's race will see an extension of 9km, providing more opportunities for time gaps to be made towards the end. Tadej Pogacar and defending champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium are well-suited for the hillier course.

The women's race, 31.2km long with 460 metres of climbing, will include a cobbled section and ascents of the Côte de Nyanza from both sides. The women's race is expected to be contested by Britain's Anna Henderson, Demi Vollering from the Netherlands, and Chloé Dygert from the USA.

The individual time trials will be followed by the mixed relay team time trial in midweek. The defending champions for the mixed relay TTT are Australia. The mixed relay TTT course around Kigali includes the Côte de Nyanza climbed only from the north and the Côte de Kimihurura, but not the cobbles.

The under-23 women and junior men will race against the clock midweek as well. The under-23 women will race a 22.6km course with 350m of climbing, including the cobbles and Côte de Kimihurura, but only one ascent of the Côte de Nyanza. The junior men will race a shorter course of 18.3km with 225m of climbing.

The under-23 men will race the same course as the elite women, while the junior women will race a shorter course. The under-23 men's time trial takes place on September 22 at 12:35pm BST, and the junior men's time trial takes place on September 23 at 1pm BST. The junior women's time trial takes place on September 23 at 9:45am BST, and the under-23 women's time trial takes place on the same day at 9:35am BST.

Both races will start at the BK Arena, typically used for basketball and volleyball, but will be used for cycling during the championships. The elite time trials occur on the opening Sunday, with the women's race first, followed by the men's. The mixed relay TTT takes place on Wednesday, September 24, at 11:30am BST, with the men riding first, covering 21.2km, followed by the women on the same route.

The UCI Road World Championships 2025 promise to be an exciting event, with challenging courses and top athletes vying for the coveted titles. Don't miss out on the action!
