Time to stop the blame game: Breakers stuck in a funk

The New Zealand Breakers have suffered their third straight NBL defeat, raising serious concerns about their play-in hopes. Coach Petteri Koponen did not hold back after the game, telling players to take responsibility instead of pointing fingers.

The loss came as the team struggled with poor shooting, converting just 6 of 27 three-point attempts and 17 of 27 free throws.

Koponen criticised his side’s reaction to pressure, saying they fell apart and resorted to complaining rather than uniting. He has now given the players Christmas Eve off to spend with family before their next match.

The Breakers will face the Tasmania JackJumpers on Boxing Day in Hobart. They then return home for games against Perth on January 4 and Sydney on January 9.

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Bullets secured a win under interim coach Darryl McDonald, who took over after Stu Lash stepped down on December 18. The club is still searching for a permanent replacement.

Bullets forward Tyrell Harrison played a key role with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. His performance helped Brisbane dominate the boards, outrebounding their opponents 48-36.

The Breakers now face a tough road to recover their season, starting with a Boxing Day clash in Tasmania. Their recent slump has left them in a precarious position for the NBL play-in race.

Brisbane, meanwhile, will continue their search for a new head coach while relying on interim leadership to maintain momentum.
