time shifting: advance your clocks earlier this year for daylight saving time
It's that time of year again when we prepare to "fall back" an hour as Daylight Saving Time (DST) comes to an end. Here's a guide to help you navigate the change.
When is Daylight Saving Time ending in 2025?
Daylight Saving Time 2025 will end on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 a.m. Digital devices will automatically adjust the time, but manual clocks should be turned back an hour before going to bed on Saturday night.
What happens to the time when Daylight Saving Time ends?
We "fall back" an hour when Daylight Saving Time ends in the fall. This means that if it's currently 1 a.m., it will become 12 a.m. (midnight) when DST ends.
What about the Sunshine Protection Act and permanent Daylight Saving Time?
The Sunshine Protection Act, which aims to make DST permanent in the U.S., has not been enacted into federal law as of 2025. At the state level, including in New York, bills concerning permanent daylight saving time or exemptions from DST continue to be introduced but do not advance significantly in the legislature.
Impacts of Daylight Saving Time
Studies have found that heart attacks and strokes tend to increase right after Daylight Saving Time starts in March. On the other hand, gaining an hour tends to be easier for most people than losing it. Sleep struggles and depression can occur more often in the shorter days of fall and winter.
Exceptions to Daylight Saving Time
Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation), Hawaii, and certain U.S. territories do not observe Daylight Saving Time and instead observe Standard Time year-round.
Other News
In other news, the CNY amusement park is up for sale, with a potential discount. The Disney Store is also having a sale on Star Wars LEGO sets starting at $40 on Aug. 12, 2025, at 4:40 p.m.
Remember, it's essential to prepare for the changing of clocks by shifting bedtimes little by little in the days ahead to help ease the transition. Stay tuned for more updates on the status of the Sunshine Protection Act and any changes in DST policies.
