Braverman Unveils Plan to Leave ECHR and Reform UK's Legal Landscape

Home Secretary Suella Braverman will deliver a significant speech this afternoon at the Conservative Party Conference, outlining a comprehensive plan to withdraw the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and overhaul the country's legal framework.

The plan, which Braverman has dubbed a 'no-nonsense legal blueprint,' is supported by a growing coalition of politicians and public figures, including Nigel Farage, senior DUP figures, blue Labour MPs, and the Reform movement.

The plan is built upon four guiding principles: legal uniformity, democratic accountability, consultation with Northern Irish communities, and respect for the spirit of 1998. Braverman aims to ensure that UK laws are clear, consistent, and reflect the will of the British people.

One of the key aspects of the plan is the repeal of the Human Rights Act and the reform of judicial review. Braverman believes that these changes are necessary to protect Great Britain from the perceived overreach of European judges, who have allegedly gone against decisions made by the UK's Supreme Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal.

Moreover, the plan proposes removing ECHR references from the 1998 Belfast Good Friday Agreement and replacing them with UK domestic and common law protections. This move is intended to strengthen the Union and restore the sovereignty of the UK in Northern Ireland.

In addition, Braverman plans to introduce a new law that bars anyone who crosses the Channel from claiming asylum in Britain. This measure is part of a broader strategy to address the issue of illegal immigration and ensure that the UK's borders are secure.

Rishi Sunak, the Conservative Party leadership candidate backed by Braverman, has also voiced his support for leaving the ECHR. Sunak's stance on the issue, along with his position on migration, has earned him Braverman's endorsement in the leadership race.

Braverman's plan to leave the ECHR is not a fringe position, but rather a crystallization of the sentiments expressed in a petition launched last year, signed by over 50,000 people, calling for the UK to leave the ECHR and stop the boats.

The ECHR has been criticized for blocking the deportation of foreign criminals, tying the hands on immigration, undermining veterans, and binding soldiers in foreign conflicts with laws they never signed up for. By leaving the ECHR, Braverman aims to restore the UK's ability to govern itself and make decisions in the best interests of its citizens.

The plan will be delivered at 10am today and promises to provide a detailed and practical roadmap for the UK's departure from the ECHR and the reform of its legal landscape. The speech at the Conservative Party Conference is expected to mark a significant step in the ongoing debate about the UK's relationship with the ECHR and its commitment to upholding the rule of law.
