Title: Kyiv Slams Moscow's Duplicity: Reconciliation With Ukraine Just Around the Corner, Says Zelensky

Kyiv has accused Moscow of disingenuousness regarding a potential reconciliation with Ukraine. Despite ongoing Russian drone strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stands firm on his belief that unity between the neighboring nations is imminent.

In an exclusive television documentary, Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced his optimism for a resolution with Ukraine, however, stating, "It seems inevitable, albeit amid the current turmoil." Putin further expressed his confidence in a Russian victory, asserting that Moscow has the military means to bring the conflict to a victorious end.

Ukrainian President Zelensky, on the contrary, has accused the Russian government of hypocrisy. "The Russians ask for a ceasefire on their holidays and attack Ukraine every day - that's cynicism at its finest," he said in a telegram post. According to Zelensky, Russian forces have employed over 1,180 drones and 1,360 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine within just one week.

Historical night attacks have left Donetsk and Sumy under siege. On May 9, Russia commemorates the Day of Victory over Nazi Germany, marking 80 years since the battle. Russian President Putin has ordered a three-day ceasefire for the occasion, which will be celebrated in Moscow with a military parade. Kyiv, however, insists on at least a 30-day cessation of hostilities for any meaningful talks.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Russia has refused to recognize Ukraine's right to return to its 1991 borders and demands Kyiv cede territory in Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson oblasts. Moscow has also made claims on Mykolaiv and Kharkiv oblasts, which remain under Ukrainian control.

Simultaneously, Ukraine faces challenges in its diplomatic efforts, including pressure to make territorial concessions while resisting recognizing Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea. Kyiv seeks binding multinational security assurances and continued arms supplies.

The impasse between Russia and Ukraine stems, in large part, from their incompatible objectives. Russia seeks legitimization of its territorial gains, while Ukraine aims to preserve its sovereignty with Western backing.
