Steering the Course Towards Change: Seehofer Backs a Female Federal President

Federal President Time Arrives for Consensus: Seehofer - Time for a Female Federal President - As stated by Seehofer.

In a bold move, former CSU chief, Horst Seehofer, has publicly endorsed a female candidate for the federal presidency, citing his party colleague, Ilse Aigner, as his top choice. "It's high time a woman steered this nation. I'm all for a woman, and Ilse would be my first pick," Seehofer told the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".

He elaborated on Aigner's qualities: "She's got a knack for people, is easy to approach, and her speeches as State Parliament President are thought-provoking. If Ilse enters the ring of potential candidates, it'll give a much-needed push to other women," he added.

As of now, all twelve federal presidents since 1949 have been men. The second term of Frank-Walter Steinmeier ends on March 18, 2027, leaving the way clear for a fresh face.

In 1999, Dagmar Schipanski, a union candidate and native Thuringian, ran for the highest office but lost to Johannes Rau (SPD).

Who's Ilse Aigner, and Why the Hype?

Ilse Aigner is a prominent figure in the CSU and has been a Member of the Bavarian State Parliament since 1998. She served as the Bavarian Minister of Transportation and Digital Infrastructure from 2018 to 2021, demonstrating her administrative skills.
