Freestyle Freestyle: Tillmann Narrowly Misses Cool Derby Win in Hamburg Qualifier

Second Hamburg Derby Qualifier Misstep by Tillmann - Tillmann experiences a near-win in the second Derby qualifier held in Hamburg.

Hey there, horse-lovers! On a sunny Sunday, the equestrian world buzzed with excitement as show jumper Frederic Tillmann from Grevenbroich took a stab at the second Derby qualifier in Hamburg. With top form and riding Comanche, Tillmann led the pack for a considerable amount of time. But, alas, British rider Guy Williams snatched the victory from him on Gringos Legacy.

Although he fell short of the title, Tillmann maintained a positive attitude. "I'm beyond thrilled because my horse is in top shape," he shared on NDR television. Despite sharing a similar career path with his brother, Gilberg Tillmann, Frederic is still awaiting his first win on the world's toughest course. Back in 2022 and 2024, he finished as runner-up on the 11-year-old Comanche in this very competition.

Janne-Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann from Pinneberg claimed the third spot with Electric Joy. Irish rider Geoff Curran finished fourth on Hawthornhill. Only these four pairs sailed through without penalty points.

Unfortunate mishap

The event encountered a setback when Sven Gero Hünicke from the island of Fehmarn took a fall with My Mister during the water jump. Thankfully, the incident resulted in minor injuries for Hünicke (apparently a shoulder issue) and a reported bruise for the horse.

The course in the second qualifier didn't meet Derby standards yet and was 500 meters shorter than the expected 1.230 meters on Derby day.
