Tight Race Between KO and PiS – latest opinion survey reveals
The latest poll by IBRiS for "Rzeczpospolita" reveals a tight race between the Civic Coalition (KO) and the Law and Justice Party (PiS) as the countdown to Poland's parliamentary elections begins. Sixty-one percent of respondents claim they would participate if elections were held this weekend, according to the survey.
The Poll Results
The Civic Coalition holds a narrow lead with 31.8% support, while the Law and Justice Party follows closely with 30.3%. Other parties' standing includes:
- Third Way: 12.7%
- The Left: 8.9%
- Confederation: 7%
Approximately 9.3% of respondents remain undecided.
The Prof's Take
Sociologist Professor Henryk Domański from the Polish Academy of Sciences weighed in on the poll results. While appreciating the stable support for both KO and PiS, he voiced skepticism about the reported high voter turnout, suggesting it might be an overestimate.
Conducted on May 23-24, the poll sampled a national group of 1,071 respondents, with findings reflecting the ongoing political competition and the electorate's preferences as the upcoming elections approach.

The Civic Coalition, led by the Civic Platform (PO), has seen an uptick in momentum, winning the parliamentary elections on October 15, 2023, as well as the European elections on June 9, 2024, with 37.06% of the vote. Their platform emphasizes reforms the PiS-aligned President Andrzej Duda has opposed.
The Law and Justice Party, despite losing the parliamentary elections, retains a strong influence due to President Duda's veto power, hindering the implementation of reforms by the new government. The PiS focuses on conservative policies, with a concentration on social issues and a close alignment with the stance of Jarosław Kaczyński, the party's leader.
