Hamilton Tiger-Cats Prepare for Showdown with Edmonton Elks

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are gearing up for a pivotal match against the Edmonton Elks in the annual Hall of Fame game this Saturday night. The Cats, currently standing at 8-5, are looking to sweep the two-game season series, having earned a 28-24 road win against Edmonton on Aug. 2.

The Tiger-Cats' defense has been a force to reckon with this season. They lead the Canadian Football League (CFL) in turnovers, forcing a league-high 32, and have registered a CFL-high 98 points off turnovers. The defense has also been successful in interceptions, with 17, and fumble recoveries, tying with Winnipeg for first with nine.

Bo Levi Mitchell, the team's quarterback, leads all quarterbacks in yards through the air this season. His consistent performances have been a key factor in the Tiger-Cats' offensive success, which ranks second overall in scoring, tied for second in offensive touchdowns, and first in passing touchdowns.

The Tiger-Cats' running game has also been impressive in their last two games. Greg Bell accounted for 293 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries, with 234 yards against Montreal and 163 yards against Winnipeg.

Scott Milanovich, the head coach of the Tiger-Cats, takes many considerations into account before deciding how to call a game. While the team has had success running the ball in recent games, Milanovich does not always prioritize it in every game.

Tim White, the team's receiver, feels that the offense has a responsibility to take advantage of opportunities created by the defense or special teams. This sentiment was particularly evident in the Tiger-Cats' game against Winnipeg on September 12, which was a celebration of Ted Goveia's life after his death. Hamilton scored two touchdowns against Winnipeg following interceptions by Jamal Peters and DaShaun Amos.

The Edmonton Elks, despite their 5-8 record, are expected to bring challenges and give their best shot against the Tiger-Cats. The Elks have made changes, adapted, and grown together since the last time the Tiger-Cats faced them. Rookie linebacker Devin Veresuk, who left Friday night's game on a stretcher, was a full participant in practice and is expected to play Saturday.

The 2025 class to be honored at halftime of the game includes players Bryan Chiu, Jovan Olafioye, Jeremaine Copeland, Scott Flagel, Darryl Hall, builders Glen Johnson, and Frank McCrystal. The players honored at the halftime show on September 19, 2025, in Hamilton are the inductees into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025, including Jovan Olafioye. The ceremony takes place at Hamilton Stadium at 6:30 p.m. ET.

As the Tiger-Cats prepare for this crucial match, they remember the contributions of their former general manager, Ted Goveia, who passed away last Friday due to esophageal cancer. Goveia was hired as the general manager of the Tiger-Cats on December 5, 2024. The game against Edmonton will undoubtedly be a testament to his legacy and the team's determination to continue their winning streak.
