Tiff reveals the 25th edition of the Wavelengths segment
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025 is set to take place from September 4-14, and the Wavelengths line-up promises an exciting celebration of international, experimental, and avant-garde cinema and contemporary art.
The programme, curated by senior curator Andréa Picard and associate curator Jesse Cumming, with contributions from Jason Anderson and Diana Cadavid, features several premieres, including world and North American premieres.
World Premieres
- Map Of Traces (記憶座標, HK), directed by Chan Hau Chun, is having its world premiere at the festival.
- Conditio Humana (Austria), directed by Friedl vom Gröller, is also having its world premiere at the festival.
- From My Cloud (구름으로부터, S Kor), directed by Minjung Kim, is another world premiere at the festival.
- Rojo Žalia Blau (Austria), directed by Viktoria Schmid, and FELT (Can), directed by Blake Williams, are both having their world premieres at the festival.
- Slightest Pretense (わずかな 見 せかけ, Japan), directed by Eri Saito, is also having its world premiere at the festival.
- Land Of Barbar (بلاد البربر, Tun), directed by Fredj Moussa, is another world premiere at the festival.
North American Premieres
- Disappeared (India-Nep), directed by Sohrab Hura, is having its Canadian premiere at the festival.
- Daria's Night Flowers (گل ھای شب دِریا, Fr-Iran-UK), directed by Maryam Tafakory, is having its North American premiere at the festival.
- Cairo Streets (Fr), directed by Abdellah Taïa, is also having its North American premiere at the festival.
- CONFERENCE (Austria), directed by Björn Kämmerer, is having its North American premiere at the festival.
- En Traversée (Fr), directed by Vadim Kostrov, is having its Canadian premiere at the festival.
- Morgenkreis (Can-UAE), directed by Basma al-Sharif, is having its international premiere at the festival.
- I Saw The Face Of God In The Jet Wash (UK), directed by Mark Jenkin, is having its North American premiere at the festival.
- 09/05/1982 (Mex-Sp), directed by Jorge Caballero and Camilo Restrepo, is also having its North American premiere at the festival.
Special Pairing
Kamal Aljafari’s With Hasan in Gaza, a documentary based on rediscovered Mini DV tapes from 2001, screens alongside Basma al-Sharif’s short It’s So Beautiful Here.
Tribute
A heartfelt tribute to avant-garde filmmaker Tomonari Nishikawa, featuring his short Ten Mornings Ten Evenings and One Horizon, originally premiered in TIFF 2016.
The selection appears in alphabetical order and includes BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, Copper, Dry Leaf, Levers, Magellan, Mare's Nest, The Seasons.
This 25th anniversary Wavelengths lineup highlights emerging talents and established avant-garde filmmakers through a diverse slate of films that challenge traditional narrative forms. Notable films include Joseph’s BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, a genre-bending exploration of race, representation, and Black culture, built like a remix using archival footage, interviews, writings, and multimedia elements.
See-Saw Films, Element, and Monumental have joined Screen Summit's trailblazing producers panel. Lav Diaz's Magellan, starring Gael García Bernal, is having its North American premiere at the festival.
