Tidal race competition: Red Bull Wattloop scheduled for August 31st
The Red Bull Wattlauf, a 24-kilometer running event, is set to take place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wattenmeer on August 31, 2025. This exciting race starts and ends in the North Sea spa town of Duhnen, Cuxhaven.
Anyone who has reached the minimum age of 18 years and can complete a half marathon in about two hours is eligible to participate. The course covers approximately 24.6 kilometers, taking runners through the Wadden Sea from Duhnen to the island of Neuwerk and back.
The varied terrain and tidal conditions make strategic pace management essential. Participants will traverse mudflats, wade through knee-deep water, and navigate hip-deep channels. To protect the sensitive ecosystem, running is only allowed on the official mudflat walking route.
Registration for the Red Bull Wattlauf can be found directly at Red Bull. The entry fee of 69 euros includes a high-quality ICANIWILL functional shirt. Littering during the event is strictly prohibited.
Refreshing beverages will be provided in reusable containers at water stations set up at the start, on Neuwerk, and at the finish. The turning point of the race is at the historic lighthouse on Neuwerk.
The Red Bull Wattlauf has a strict cut-off time due to the incoming tide. Participants must be able to complete the race within this time limit. Notable participants include ultrarunner Florian Neuschwander, native Hamburger Imke Salander, fitness creator Paula Enzweiler, triathlete Salli Twickler, and hybrid athletes Alex Kukla and Lukas Müller.
Florian Neuschwander recommends wearing light trail shoes for the Red Bull Wattlauf. He advises against using waterproof shoes as they can keep water inside longer.
Registration for the Red Bull Wattlauf closes on August 30, 2025. Don't miss out on this unique running experience!
