The suspect, identified as an Islamist and supporter of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS or ISIS), is currently in investigative detention.

The Islamic State, an Islamist terrorist group known for its strict interpretation of Islam and rules, has been active in countries such as Syria and Iraq. The Ambassador of Israel to Germany, Ron Prosor, expressed concern over the increasing hatred against Jews and Israel worldwide. Prosor thanked the police for their work in apprehending the suspect and praised their vigilance in protecting Jewish and Israeli institutions.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the attack plan as cowardly, reiterating Germany's commitment to combating terrorism. The Islamic State has been responsible for numerous attacks in various countries and has been responsible for killing many people in Syria and Iraq.
