THW Volunteers Gear Up for UEFA EURO 2024 in Munich and Beyond
The Technical Relief Agency (THW), Germany's volunteer deployment organization, is gearing up to provide extensive support during the UEFA European Football Championship 2024. With around 200 personnel on standby, THW will contribute to the safety and smooth running of the event, focusing on the state capital Munich where the opening match will take place on June 14.
THW's wide range of competencies will be put to use, with personnel ready to assist civil and disaster protection organizations and respond to adverse weather situations. During peak times, they will tackle tasks in logistics, provide specialist advice, and set up carrier teams in the stadium.
In Munich, where six matches will be played including the opening one, around 20 local THW associations will be active on all match days. A standby area will serve as a collection point for up to 70 ambulance vehicles with medical personnel. Additionally, four THW specialist advisors and eleven members of the Virtual Operations Support Team will support the International Police Coordination Center during the tournament.
THW Bavaria will be extensively deployed from June 14 to July 14, 2024, not only in Munich but also in nine other German host cities. The tournament trophy will visit all ten host cities in preparation for the event.
With its 88,000 volunteers nationwide, THW is committed to ensuring the safety and success of UEFA EURO 2024. Their diverse skills and readiness to assist make them a crucial partner in the organization of this major sporting event.
