Thursday Screening: "9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet" at the City Museum for Discussion and Documentary

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Halle City Museum will play host to a special documentary screening event in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. The evening will feature the screening of "9/11 Santiago - Escape from Pinochet (Children of Exile)", a documentary that tells the story of Chilean families who fled to Germany during the Cold War, focusing on the experiences of children.

The documentary screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker Thomas Grimm and eyewitness Eiza González, the main protagonist of the film. Eiza is the daughter of Chilean refugees and will share her experiences during the 1973 Chilean military coup, living in hiding, fleeing Chile with her mother and brother Rodrigo González, who later became a member of the band "Die Ärzte", and settling in Germany.

Rodrigo González, Eiza's brother, is also featured in the film. The evening will be moderated by historian Dr. René Wiese.

From 6 PM, the exhibition "Coming and Going" will be available for viewing from the permanent exhibition on the history of Halle (Saale), guided by Dr. Maik Evers. The exhibition focuses on immigration to and from Halle (Saale).

The event marks the anniversary of the military coup in Chile in 1973. The documentary screening will take place at the museum located at Große Markstraße 10.

A discussion with filmmaker Thomas Grimm and eyewitness Eiza González will follow the screening. Eiza will share her personal account of the 1973 coup, life in hiding, fleeing Chile, and settling in Germany. This promises to be an insightful and moving event, shedding light on a significant period in history from a unique perspective.

We invite you to join us at the Halle City Museum on September 18 for an evening of enlightenment and reflection.
