Police Discover Many Defects in Vehicles During 'Light Test' - Thuringia’s ‘Light Check’ campaign exposes shocking vehicle and bicycle lighting failures
Thuringia’s police recently conducted a large-scale ‘Light Check’ campaign to enhance road safety during darker months. Officers scrutinized over 11,000 motorized vehicles and nearly 1,000 bicycles across the region. The primary objective was to identify defective or non-compliant lighting systems that could pose risks on the roads.
The campaign transpired in October, spearheaded by the Landespolizeiinspektion Nordhausen and Thüringer Polizei. Inspections unveiled widespread issues with vehicle and bicycle lighting. Approximately one in four cyclists fell short of meeting legal lighting requirements, while roughly one in ten cars had faulty or poorly adjusted lights.
The campaign culminated in numerous violations being documented, ranging from expired inspections to lighting failures. Police enforced action in 176 cases, underscoring the necessity for regular vehicle maintenance. The checks also served as a reminder for cyclists and motorists to ensure their lights comply with legal standards before winter arrives.
