Cloudy Prospects for Thuringian Labor Market 2026 - Thuringia's Labor Market Faces Uncertain 2026, Predicts IAB

Thuringia's labor market is bracing for changes by 2026, with employment predictions varying from a slight decline to a potential increase, according to the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Erfurt. The state's high proportion of industrial jobs presents unique challenges.

In the best-case scenario, Thuringia could see a 0.3% employment increase, translating to 2,400 new jobs near me. However, the most pessimistic outlook predicts a 2% decline. The IAB, responsible for Thuringia's labor market projections, expects around 779,200 socially insured employed persons in 2026, a decrease of 6,800 from 2025.

Unemployment is also expected to rise, with a potential increase of up to 10.4% in the unfavorable scenario. IAB researchers predict around 70,700 unemployed persons in 2026, 300 more than in 2025. The economic downturn has led to fewer job advertisements and increased long-term unemployment. Sectors like industry, construction, and temporary work are experiencing employment shrinkage.

Thuringia's labor market is expected to face limits in 2026, with employment predictions indicating a potential decline despite growth in sectors such as care, health, and education. The state's high proportion of industrial jobs presents greater challenges compared to other federal states, and the IAB's detailed labor market research will provide further insights into these trends.
