Hundreds of Volunteers Financially Supported by the State - Thuringia’s €7M volunteer program expands with €15M pledge for 2026–2027

Thuringia’s new volunteer support program has already approved 763 funding applications, distributing over €7 million to local volunteering initiatives. The scheme, launched last summer, aims to back nonprofit organisations and individual volunteers across the region with financial grants. The program offers grants ranging from €5,000 to €50,000, with larger cooperative projects eligible for up to €100,000. Applicants must contribute at least ten percent of the total cost themselves. Since its introduction, nearly twice as many requests were submitted as approved, as some were either withdrawn or failed to meet the criteria. The state government has now confirmed that the initiative will continue, securing a total budget of €15 million for 2026 and 2027. Volunteers and nonprofits can still apply for the next funding round, with the application window remaining open until April 15, 2026. Thousands of people in Thuringia regularly take part in voluntary work, often through local associations. The grants help cover costs for projects in areas like social services, culture, and community development. The program’s extension ensures ongoing financial support for volunteers and nonprofit groups in Thuringia. With a new funding round underway, eligible applicants have until mid-April 2026 to submit their proposals. The state government’s commitment of €15 million guarantees continued backing for grassroots volunteering initiatives over the next two years.
