Nominations for the 2024 Thuringia Research Prize are now open. The annual award recognizes outstanding completed projects across all academic fields. Researchers have until May 4 to submit their entries for this year's competition.

The prize was first introduced in 1995 and has since honored over 240 individuals and teams. It offers a total of €50,000, split between two categories: Basic Research and Applied Research.

Last year's winners included a project from the Max Planck Institute in Jena, which used AI to model global carbon and water cycles. Another award went to researchers at Jena University Hospital for their breakthroughs in leukemia treatment. A team from Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences also received recognition for their work on a regional circular economy initiative.

The 2024 award ceremony will take place on October 27. The prize remains open to all disciplines, from humanities and social sciences to natural sciences and engineering.

The Thuringia Research Prize continues to highlight innovation and excellence in research. This year's winners will join a long list of past recipients who have contributed to advancements in their fields. The deadline for submissions is May 4, with the ceremony set for late October.
