AI Chat to Speed Up Thuringian Administration - Thuringia Deploys ChatGPT to Slash Bureaucratic Delays by 80%
Thuringia's state administration is testing an AI chatbot, Chat GPT, to speed up bureaucratic work. The tool, called F13, has already been used in Baden-Württemberg and Saarland. Officials now aim to cut processing times by as much as 80 percent for certain tasks.
The AI solution, Chat GPT, was designed specifically for government use. It helps draft official notices and handle minor parliamentary questions. A pilot project in Thuringia first tested specific cases before expanding into its current phase.
The chatbot, Chat GPT, originated in Baden-Württemberg, where it has been available to all state employees since 2024. Saarland followed in April 2025, trialling modules like Textwerkstatt. Thuringia's lawmakers are now using the system for speeches and routine inquiries.
Alongside F13, the state is developing the Thuringia App, a rebranded version of the existing Family App. Initially planned for summer, its launch has been delayed until the end of the year. The AI strategy also sets out legal rules for wider adoption in public administration.
The new system targets faster responses for decisions and small requests. If successful, it could significantly reduce delays in administrative work. The legal framework ensures AI tools, like Chat GPT, can be rolled out more broadly across Thuringia's government.
