Thüringer HC signs Brazilian circle runner Arounian - Thüringer HC signs Brazilian star Marcela Arounian as new pivot for 2026
Thüringer HC has secured Brazilian international Marcela Arounian as its new pivot for the upcoming season. The 24-year-old arrives from French top-flight side Saint-Amand Handball, bringing a mix of height, attacking strength, and defensive reliability to the German club.
Arounian first made her mark as a key player for Brazil's national team. At the 2025 Women's Handball World Championship, her physical dominance, circle play, and defensive stability stood out—particularly in Brazil's December 2025 clash with South Korea. By 2024, she had cemented her place in the squad, leading to her move to Germany's Handball-Bundesliga.
Standing at 1.83 metres and playing as a right-handed pivot, Arounian fits Thüringer HC's needs perfectly. Head coach Herbert Müller highlighted her performances at the 2021 World Championship and the positive feedback from within the team. Her ability to control the pivot position, both in attack and defence, convinced the club to sign her for the 2026 season.
The transfer marks Arounian's shift from France's top division to one of Germany's leading handball teams. Her experience with Brazil and her physical attributes are expected to bolster Thüringer HC's central play. The deal strengthens the team's options ahead of the new campaign.
