Vanemuine Theatre's Summer Concert and 156th Season
The Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu, Estonia, recently held its annual summer concert on July 27, 2025, in Kassitoome Valley. The concert, which marked the 15th in a row for the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra, was a free open-air event that lasted approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The concert included works by composers such as Leonard Bernstein, Mozart, Max Bruch, and Bedřich Smetana, and featured solo performances by Riccardo della Sciucca (tenor), Kadi Jürgens (mezzo-soprano), Brett Pruunsild (baritone), Federico Mechelli Uhl (violin), Mari Ellen Lutsar (cello), and Helin Pihlap (mandolin).
In a departure from the summer tradition, the concert was recorded and will be broadcast on ETV on August 2 at 10:20 p.m. The concert drew a large crowd, with thousands attending the event in Kassitoome Valley.
Looking ahead, the Vanemuine Theatre's 156th season will open with an opening festival on August 23, 2025. Unlike the summer concert, the opening festival will culminate in a gala concert at 19:00, which will feature highlights from works conducted by Swedish musical director Georg Malvius. It is worth noting that the soloists from the summer concert will not be part of the opening festival gala concert.
The focus of the Vanemuine Theatre's 156th season will be on the works of Georg Malvius, with the gala concert during the opening festival being a highlight of the season. The 156th season will also have a distinct opening festival, making it an exciting time for theatre-goers in Tartu.
