Thrilling Military Show 'Heroes' Wows Audience at Horse Guards Parade
In the heart of London this month, a three-night summer concert took place, marking a significant return of public ceremonial and bringing together a cast of over 250 performers. The event, titled 'Heroes', was a fusion of ceremonial splendour, music, and star power, and was a part of the 'Orb and Sceptre' collaboration by the Massed Bands of the Household Division.
The 'Orb and Sceptre' event, which took place at the Horse Guards Parade, combined various military bands, including the Duchess of Edinburgh's String Orchestra, the mounted State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry, Massed Pipes and Drums from the London Scottish Regiment and Tayforth University Officer Training Corps, and soldiers from the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
The event was a commemoration of the music of Sir William Walton, and it was an honour to have HRH The Princess Royal as the guest of honour for the three-night spectacle. Notable guests included Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor Hugh Bonneville, and international singer-songwriter Matt Goss, who performed his new charity single 'Not Forgotten' live at the event.
The British Army has brought back public ceremonial with this military musical spectacular, which supported the Household Division Charity, benefiting service personnel and their families. It's worth noting that the world-renowned military bands of the Household Division have only been able to perform in private since the second world war, making this event all the more special.
Interestingly, the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace marked their 200th anniversary with a rare and exclusive combined display of horse-drawn state coaches and cars. However, the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace has not taken place since March 2020.
As the nation eagerly awaits the Coronation of King Charles III, the 'Orb and Sceptre' event served as a prelude, celebrating the upcoming historic moment. The Military Musical Spectacular titled 'Orb and Sceptre' was a memorable event that showcased the best of British military music and tradition, and it certainly left a lasting impression on all who attended.
