Thrilling dog sports competition unfolds in Bad Harzburg

The 6th Harzer Luchstrail competition, set to take place at the Galopprennbahn in Bad Harzburg, Germany, on October 18 and 19, 2023, promises an exciting weekend of off-snow sled dog racing. This event, organised by the Harzklub Bad Harzburg and the Lower Saxony Sled Dog Sports Association, serves as a significant stepping stone for participants aiming to qualify for the European and World Championships.

This competition, which is part of the off-snow sled dog racing circuit, is open to both national and international participants. For some, it represents one of the last chances to secure a spot at the World Championships in November in the Czech Republic. The event also serves as the first qualifying race for the North German Championships.

Originally, dryland mushing events were used primarily to prepare for the snow season. However, they have evolved into off-snow championships in their own right. The competition this weekend will take place on a snow-free track, known as dryland mushing.

Races will take place both days, between 8 and 15 hours, with potential adjustments due to weather conditions. The Galopprennbahn has hosted the largest national VDSV race in Germany in the last two years, making it an ideal venue for this high-profile event.

Alongside professional mushers, guest starters without a license will compete in a separate category. Some participants aim to defend their titles from last year's competition, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Spectators are welcome at the event, with an entrance fee of 3 Euro and free entry for children up to 14 years accompanied by their parents. Dog owners are allowed to bring their pets, but they must ensure their pets are vaccinated and kept on a leash. It is important to note that dogs should be kept away from the race track for the safety of both the animals and the competitors.

National and international titles will be awarded at the competition. The event is also a qualifying run for the European and World Championships in 2026, making it a crucial event for many participants.

Whether you're a sled dog racing enthusiast or simply looking for an exciting weekend activity, the 6th Harzer Luchstrail competition promises to deliver an unforgettable experience. So, mark your calendars and get ready to witness some thrilling competition!
