Three women are successfully saved by helicopter after their coastal hike in Big Wave Bay becomes treacherous

In Hong Kong's Big Wave Bay, three foreign women were rescued on Sunday after one of them fell into the sea while exploring the rocky coast during a coasteering trip. The incident occurred near Kwun Yam Shan, causing her companions to become stranded on a cliff edge.

Authorities promptly responded to the incident, dispatching fireboats and marine police after receiving a report at 2:34 pm. A Government Flying Service helicopter was later called to the scene, airlifting the injured woman, who was conscious but suffered facial swelling and abrasions, to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment.

Following the rescue, the helicopter returned to transport the remaining two women to a heliport near Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. The police are investigating the case.

Coasteering typically combines swimming, climbing, and jumping along rocky coastlines, offering a thrilling but potentially risky adventure. Operators follow strict protocols to ensure participant safety, which includes the use of safety equipment, professional supervision, and health and ability checks.

In this specific case, it is not yet clear if the operators adhered to these safety precautions. The force is investigating the incident to determine the cause and any potential negligence.

The investigation into the coasteering incident at Big Wave Bay revealed that the rescue operation involved not only fireboats and marine police, but also a helicopter, which transported an injured woman to the hospital and later returned to airlift the remaining women. It has been reported that the authorities are also scrutinizing if the operators adhered to safety precautions during the sports activity, as accidents could potentially be linked to negligence. Meanwhile, general news outlets have been closely following updates on the ongoing investigation regarding the accidents that occurred during the coasteering trip.
