Three Witten sibling triathletes make their debut in Dresden triathlon competition
Young Triathlete Matti Fahrenson Faces Challenges in Bundesliga Debut
Matti Fahrenson, a 16-year-old triathlete from PV Triathlon TG Witten, recently made his Bundesliga debut in Dresden. Although he finished in 84th and last place, the young athlete expressed satisfaction with his performance and enjoyed the experience.
Matti's debut was unexpected, as he stepped in for the ill Samuel Linsenmeier at short notice. This was a tough challenge, given the high competition level in the Bundesliga, where he was competing against experienced elite and U23 athletes, many older and more seasoned than him.
Meanwhile, Matti's older sister, Emma Fahrenson, finished 8th in the competition the day before with the Sparda-Bank Team from Hagen. Emma, who has been struggling with strong pains on the run for the past three years, was relieved to have a pain-free race, finishing with a time of 1:03:19 and placing 51st overall.
Emma cheered on her brothers at the Bundesliga competition in Dresden, making it the first time that all three Fahrenson siblings started in the Bundesliga on the same weekend.
Luca Fahrenson, another talented triathlete, overtook Matti during the running distance in the competition. Luca finished fourth in the DM individual rankings and became the German U23 vice-champion, with a time of 51:21 minutes, just five seconds behind the national squad athlete from Saarland.
Thomas Fehrs, the sporting director of PV Triathlon TG Witten, stated that they didn't expect miracles from Matti, given the early stage in his Bundesliga career. In the sprint competition, only four athletes per team were counted in the league, so Matti wasn't under pressure to deliver a stable result.
Looking ahead, Luca is currently traveling to Livigno for altitude training and has good chances of a starting place at the U23 World Championships. Luca started for Triathlon Potsdam, while Matti started for PV Triathlon TG Witten.
Luca advises his brother Matti to gain experience from competition to competition and learn from his mistakes. Matti is determined to start in the first league more often in the future.
