Three-Team Trade Sends Zack Littell to Cincinnati Reds
In a surprising move, right-handed pitcher Zack Littell has been traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Cincinnati Reds in a three-team deal that also involves the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Littell, who has spent parts of three seasons with the Rays, found out about the trade not long before the final out of the game between the Rays and Yankees. He started the game and threw five innings, allowing two hits and striking out four before being relieved in the sixth inning.
The Reds are hoping to strengthen their rotation with the acquisition of Littell, who has a record of 8-8 with a 3.58 ERA in 22 starts this season. However, Littell is set to become a free agent after this season, making him a short-term rental for the Reds.
The Rays are receiving catcher Hunter Feduccia and right-handed pitcher Brian Van Belle from the Reds, while the Dodgers are receiving left-handed pitcher Adam Serwinowski, right-hander Paul Gervase, and catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Rays. The Dodgers are acting as an intermediary to facilitate the catcher exchange.
Littell expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received from the Rays, stating that they have and will continue to change his life. He told reporters that there are still some moving parts in the trade that have not been fully disclosed.
