Three southern state towns receive financial aid for infrastructural transformation
Minister President Reiner Haseloff recently presented the funding decisions for structural change in Saxony-Anhalt, a region in eastern Germany. The funding is aimed at modernizing and expanding various projects across the region, including climate change mitigation initiatives.
In addition to Mansfeld, Hettstedt, and Eisleben, cities like Halle, Magdeburg, and Dessau are expected to receive multimillion-euro support. One of the significant projects in Mansfeld is the "Strengthen Industry - Protect Families" initiative, which has been allocated over five million euros. The Mansfeld-South Harz district, too, will receive approximately eight million euros for structural transformation projects, including climate-friendly mobility expansion.
One of the key projects in Mansfeld is the modernization of the "Bummi" kindergarten. The aim is to make it climate-neutral and expand its facilities. Other projects include the construction of a replacement for the "Pfeifermühle" community center and the redesign of sealed-off areas as green spaces.
Eisleben, meanwhile, has been granted around 259,000 euros from a federal program for a position to coordinate future projects. These include tourist offerings at the Königspfalz Helfta and the expansion of climate-friendly mobility.
In the Saale district, the Bergbad region in Petersberg, a leisure facility, is to be revitalized with funding from the federal program for coal mining areas. A study on tourist development brings new hope for this region.
Hettstedt, another city in the region, has been allocated around three million euros for the first phase of the "Green District Heating" project. The Mibrag, with 1,300 employees, is also preparing for the coal phase-out and investments in other forms of energy.
However, not everything is running smoothly in the Burgenlandkreis's structural change process. Funding for structural change in the Burgenlandkreis is meant to replace coal funding, but the process has been met with much skepticism locally. The district is set to receive billions of euros for structural change, including new schools, industrial projects, and future jobs.
Energy Minister Willingmann has been discussing wind turbines, solar parks, and political responsibility regarding the energy transition. Climate policy is unpopular in Saxony-Anhalt, and the economy must become climate-neutral. Despite the challenges, many ideas for structural change are present in the region, but funding flows slowly.
The Mühlenbad swimming pool in the Mansfeld district of Großörner is also set to be modernized. The city of Magdeburg, too, is expected to receive significant funding for various projects, bringing hope for a more sustainable and prosperous future for Saxony-Anhalt.
