Tens of thousands of football fans, primarily from Italy and France, are anticipated to arrive in Munich this weekend for the much-awaited Champions League final. The city's sports department's spokesperson reveals an estimated Italian majority, largely due to the convenience of traveling from Milan to Munich via train. The Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) predicts approximately 90,000 overnight stays from out-of-town guests.

The city of Munich still bears the collective sorrow from losing the "home final" against London's FC Chelsea thirteen years ago. Three large fan zones will be set up in the city for the upcoming clash between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena in Fröttmaning on Saturday evening. The Olympiapark will host the "Champions Festival," where up to 25,000 people can attend. The "PSG Fan Meeting Point" at Königsplatz can accommodate up to 18,000 people, while the "Inter Fanzone" at Odeonsplatz can hold up to 16,500. Both areas will open at 11:00 AM.

Over 2,000 police officers will be deployed to secure the game and its surroundings. The Munich Police Presidency will receive assistance from officers across Bavaria. Although there are no specific threat assessments, the abstract threat level remains high due to the global political climate, including the Ukraine war and Middle East conflict.

The city anticipates an additional 46.2 million euros in revenue from the fans. The Munich Economic Affairs Department estimates a "tourism-related increase in turnover of about 46.2 million euros" due to the final.

Throughout the week, various events are scheduled in Munich. Today, a legends tournament is taking place at the SAP Garden in the Olympiapark, featuring former stars such as Franck Ribéry, Lothar Matthäus, and Luis Figo.

According to Daniela Ziegler, the Munich Dehoga district manager, there is exceptionally strong interest, with a high willingness to pay this year. Most guests plan to stay one or two nights, and some inns are fully booked. The low price sensitivity is likely due to the extreme ticket scarcity and high prices, as fans who pay several thousand euros for a final ticket are unlikely to be deterred by hotel room prices.

Enrichment Data (If Relevant):

The 2025 UEFA Champions League final at Allianz Arena attracted an attendance of 64,327 people[1][2]. Linkin Park performed an opening show at the event, energizing over 64,000 fans with their iconic music[2].

The city's sports department has announced the setup of three large fan zones to cater to the influx of football fans, offering community aid in the form of spaces for thousands to gather and cheer for Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. With the busy week ahead, financial aid might also be needed to accommodate the anticipated 90,000 overnight stays from out-of-town guests, potentially coming from various countries that follow football passionately, such as Italy and France.
