Three nations of the E3 (France, Germany, and UK) assert that Iran has not taken any action to halt the reinstatement of United Nations sanctions, according to their recent declaration.

In a recent development, European officials, including representatives from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, have issued a stern warning to Iran regarding its nuclear program. The warning comes following a call between the parties, expressing concern over Iran's failure to take necessary steps to prevent the reinstatement of United Nations sanctions.

The German Foreign Ministry separately stated on the social platform X that Iran has yet to take the reasonable and precise actions required to avert the reimposition of U.N. sanctions. This warning echoes the sentiments of the EU, which has also expressed concern over Iran's compliance with the nuclear agreement.

Kallas emphasised that Iran must demonstrate credible steps towards addressing the demands of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. This includes demonstrating full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and allowing inspections of all nuclear sites without delay. However, it remains unclear when Iran will make the report required by the deal.

The 'snapback' mechanism, designed to be veto-proof at the U.N., will take effect at the end of September unless the U.N. Security Council agrees to stop it. If implemented, the snapback will freeze Iranian assets abroad, halt arms deals with Tehran, and penalise any development of Iran's ballistic missile program.

The process to reimplement sanctions on Iran was initiated by Germany, France, and the United Kingdom (the E3), citing violations of the nuclear agreement. However, the effective implementation of the snapback is complicated by the strong opposition from China and Russia, who have voiced their opposition to the reintroduction of UN sanctions against Iran.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, which included bombing of Iranian nuclear sites by both Israel and the Americans, has raised concerns about the status and security of Iran's nuclear program. The region is still experiencing heightened tensions due to Israel's actions in Gaza, particularly the ground offensive targeting Gaza City.

The implementation of the snapback could exacerbate the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Moreover, the use of the snapback mechanism is likely to heighten tensions between Iran and the West. Kaja Kallas warned that the window for finding a diplomatic solution on Iran's nuclear issue is closing rapidly.

It is important to note that the stockpile of uranium enriched nearly to weapons-grade levels in Iran's nuclear program is now in question due to this conflict. The war between Israel and Iran has further squeezed Iran's reeling economy, adding to the pressure on the Iranian government to comply with international demands.

In response to the call, Iran had no immediate comment, though it had acknowledged earlier that the call would take place. Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency earlier reached a deal mediated by Egypt to grant the U.N. watchdog access to all Iranian nuclear sites. This deal offers a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing nuclear standoff.

However, the ongoing tensions and the threat of sanctions pose a significant challenge to the diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the nuclear issue peacefully. The international community will closely monitor the situation and hope for a diplomatic solution that ensures the peaceful resolution of this complex issue.
