India's Jasprit Bumrah Tops Wicket-Takers in England Test Series

In the recently concluded five-match Test series between England and India, it was Jasprit Bumrah who emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the Indian team. Bumrah took 23 wickets in the series, bowling 140 overs with an economy rate of 2.76 and a strike rate of 48.7.

Bumrah's impressive performance included figures of 23 wickets at an average of 22.47. This performance made him joint highest wicket-taker for India in a Test series in England, alongside Mohammed Siraj. Siraj, who also had a stellar series, matched Bumrah's tally in a 2025 series.

Despite Bumrah's absence in the final Test, Mohammed Siraj stepped up to the plate, taking nine wickets for 190 runs at Edgbaston. His performance ensured that India did not miss Bumrah's pace spearhead. Siraj finished as the series' leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been a force to reckon with for India with the bat. Gill scored a majestic 269 in the first innings and a turbo-charged 161 in the second at Edgbaston. His series total of 754 runs includes four centuries, falling just short of overhauling Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing Indian record tally of 774 runs in a series.

Gill's batting style combines elegance and classical techniques with the ability to accelerate when necessary. His leadership skills have also been on display, overseeing a victory in the final Test when all seemed lost.

Mark Wood, who has not played Test cricket for nearly 12 months and had knee surgery earlier this year, did not feature in the series. Jofra Archer made a return to the Test arena against India but played only two matches.

Siraj, who was named player of the match for his performance in the final Test, stated that he felt confident before the final day of the Test, saying "When I woke up today (Monday), I thought I could do it. I downloaded a picture from Google saying 'believe'."

Siraj bowled an energy-sapping 185.3 overs in the series, playing every game. His consistent performances have been a major boost for the Indian team, especially in light of Bumrah's limited availability for the series.

As India continue their Test series against England, the spotlight will shift to the next set of players to make their mark on the series. With the series level at 2-2, both teams will be aiming to secure a series win in the final Test.
