Three individuals, including the perpetrator, lost their lives following a gunfight close to Lincoln Middle School in Berwyn, Illinois.
In a shocking incident, a shooting occurred in front of Lincoln Middle School in Berwyn, Illinois, on Tuesday afternoon. The incident resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including the suspect, who is believed to have taken their own life.
The shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m., with students still inside for after-school programmes. The police are investigating the incident as an isolated occurrence, with initial reports suggesting it to be a domestic-related incident.
Orlando Valentin, a local resident, heard the gunshots and saw the aftermath of the incident. Valentin witnessed kids running around in fear. He also saw a man slumped over in his car at the scene of the incident.
Berwyn police reported that they saw a man shooting a rifle into another car. Officers did not shoot back when the suspect opened fire at them, instead taking cover. Reports suggest that over 100 students were placed in a hard lockdown following the shooting.
The shooting resulted in two dark sedans being involved, with some windows blown out and bullet holes in the windshield. The shooter was later found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the incident, social workers and counselors will be available for students who need to talk about the incident. Lincoln Middle School will be closed on Wednesday as a precautionary measure.
