Tragic turn at WestFest: Three lives snuffed out in gunfire at weekend celebration

West Valley City, Utah turned into a grim scene when a shooting rang out at the WestFest carnival, claiming three lives and leaving others injured.

The incident unfolded on a chilly Sunday night at Centennial Park. Two opposing groups had been stirring up trouble, generating the attention of the local law enforcement present.

As officers moved in to defuse the situation, chaos erupted. A 16-year-old from one group, apparently losing his cool, drew his firearm and began blasting. One officer responded with a shot, but missed the mark.

The cruel toll: an 8-month-old baby, a 41-year-old bystander, and an 18-year-old man from one of the groups were left lifeless. A 17-year-old female and a 15-year-old male both took bullets in the arm, though their connection to the parties involved remains unclear.

The 16-year-old was swiftly apprehended by the police. As of now, his identity remains under wraps.

Authorities commended the rapid response of the officers, who dove into the crowd in the midst of gunfire to take the suspect into custody.
