Three individuals cleared of charges in the notable murder case linked to actress Tangmo Nida

Thai Actress Nida "Tangmo" Patcharaveerapong's Death Investigation Concludes

Following a two-year legal battle, the Nonthaburi Provincial Court has acquitted three of the actress's friends, against whom negligence causing death charges were brought after her tragic drowning in the Chao Phraya River in February 2022. The court dismissed the charges, citing insufficient evidence.

However, the fourth defendant, Nithat Keeratisutthasathorn (Job), was found guilty of two separate offenses. He received a four-month prison sentence and a fine of 16,000 baht for filing a false police report, and an additional two months in prison and an 8,000 baht fine for illegally disposing of waste in the river. The court suspended both prison sentences for one year.

Earlier in the proceedings, the court had sentenced the first two defendants, Tanupat Lertthaweewit (Por) and Paiboon Trikanjananun (Robert), to 5 years and 8 months and 4 years and 4 months in prison, respectively. After pleading guilty and compensating the victim's family, their sentences were reduced to 2 years and 9 months, suspended for 3 years, with mandatory community service.

The high-profile case had captured the Thai public's attention, stoking speculation about whether Tangmo's death was an accident or foul play. With this verdict, the legal aspect of the case has been resolved, although the mother of the actress, Panida Sirayutthayothin, has voiced her disagreement and plans to appeal the decision.

Nida Tangmo was a renowned Thai actress, model, and television personality. Starting her career in the early 2000s after participating in the Miss Teen Thailand pageant, she gained national attention and became a household name in Thailand due to her memorable roles in various TV dramas, films, and variety shows. Known for her beauty and emotional depth in dramatic roles, she was also admired for her outspoken nature and philanthropic activities. Tangmo tragically passed away at the age of 37.

It has been revealed that the mother of the late actress, Panida Sirayutthayothin, intends to appeal the court's decision, citing her doubts about the accuracy of the findings. Decha Kittiwitthayanan, the lawyer representing the family, has stated that Panida plans to obtain a certified copy of the verdict and consult with the public prosecutor before filing the appeal within one month. The appeal will focus on challenging the court's finding regarding negligence.

Despite the extensive police investigation and comprehensive evidence file, the lack of eyewitnesses to the tragic events that took place on the boat continues to leave ambiguity about what actually occurred. While some speculate that a weak police investigation played a role in the acquittals, Decha has argued that the investigation was thorough, but that no one can truly know what happened on that boat.

Tangmo Nida (born in 1984 and previously known as Pataratida Patcharaveerapong) was a prominent Thai actress, model, and television personality. Her death at the age of 37 generated widespread controversy and a prolonged legal investigation.
