Hammett's Bookstore Temporarily Reduces Seating, Expands Display Space for New Arrivals
In the entrance area of Hammett's bookstore, two chairs have been repurposed as makeshift book displays. Due to May's influx of book releases, the stores display space for new titles is insufficient, necessitating the unconventional solution. A yellow sign on one chair proclaims "New Arrivals," indicating the hidden purpose of the seating arrangement.
Christian Koch, the bookseller, offers an explanation. "The rush of new titles in May leaves us with limited space to showcase them," he says. To accommodate the influx, a table with a central pedestal is set up in the sales area for the freshest items, neatly and tightly packed for visibility. As you walk around, you'll find the "Recommendations" section equally appealing in its arrangement.
Koch stresses the importance of the back cover of each book in his display strategy. "We don't just rely on first impressions," he remarks, suggesting that this approach is one of the working principles shaping the layout of his bookstore. This emphasis on thorough evaluation contributes to the appeal and success of Hammett's bookstore.
