Three-day Patriotic Movie Festival Set for Chennai as Preparations for Independence Day Fête Commence
The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) are jointly organising a special patriotic film festival during Independence Day week. The event will take place from August 11 to 13, 2025, at the Tagore Film Centre in Chennai.
The festival aims to connect younger generations with films that have not only entertained but also inspired patriotism and civic pride. The opening screening of the festival will be the 1965 classic 'Shaheed', which pays tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev.
The festival's line-up includes timeless works like 'Veerapandiya Kattabomman' (1959) and 'Parasakthi' (1952), both starring Sivaji Ganesan. More recent hits like 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' (2019) and 'Swatantra Veer Savarkar' (2023) are also part of the festival.
The festival will showcase a curated selection of landmark feature films and documentaries that have stirred national pride over the decades. The documentary segment features 'Our Flag', 'Shahadat', 'Netaji Subash Chandra Bose', and 'Tilak', each exploring pivotal moments and personalities in India's freedom struggle and nation-building journey.
Entry to all screenings is free, offering the people an opportunity to experience these classics on the big screen. The festival is a continuation of the enduring tradition of Indian cinema celebrating the nation's history, struggles, and spirit through powerful storytelling.
The festival's closing screening will be 'Saat Hindustani' (1969), Amitabh Bachchan's debut film set against the backdrop of the liberation of Goa. The screenings will serve as a reminder of cinema's powerful role in shaping and reflecting India's collective identity.
The festival celebrates patriotism through landmark movies that have inspired national pride across decades, marking the Independence Day week in 2025. The event will be inaugurated on Monday.
The festival not only offers entertainment through movies like 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' (2019) and 'Swatantra Veer Savarkar' (2023), but it also aims to inspire patriotism and civic pride by showcasing timeless works such as 'Veerapandiya Kattabomman' (1959) and 'Parasakthi' (1952).
