Festive Vibes at Spreewaldweihnacht

The inaugural weekend of Spreewaldweihnacht, a Christmas market nestled in Lübbenau, witnessed a flurry of visitors. According to local sources, the crowd surged to around 5,000 on Saturday, with slightly fewer attendees on Sunday, approximately 4,500.

Jenny Linke, spokesperson for the Spreewald Museum in Lübbenau, shared her enthusiasm for the event's popularity. The mild weather didn't deter visitors from indulging in the festive atmosphere, which included browsing the Christmas market and savoring delicious treats in the Spreewald harbor.

The celebration extended beyond the bustling harbor, as almost 60 barges transported eager guests to the Lehde Open-Air Museum. There, they could interact with the Sorbian Christ Child, known as "Bescherkind," and the Ruprecht, the region's gift bringer.

Steffen Franke, the head of Lübbenau and surrounding area's boat ferry cooperative, praised the favorable weather conditions, certifying a successful start to the festivities.

Visitors with a taste for adventure could opt for a journey through the spree forest, uncovering historic farms and learning about local Christmas customs. Despite the event's popularity, combined tickets for the boat trip and museum visit were already sold out, yet visitors could still explore the museum with a day ticket.

Spreewald's magic continues to captivate guests during the Advent period. The enchanting village is set to welcome throngs of visitors during the second weekend of December, offering breathtaking winter vistas and a heartfelt celebration.
