Thousands of Residents in StrAlessandria Unite, Lights Blazing, to Show Support for Water Project in Guinea

** Park teems with 5,000 runners in white T-shirts, united by a shared spirit**. The sun was blazing hot on the last Sunday of an unnamed month, and the crowd of enthusiastic participants wasn't just feeling the heat, but the excitement that filled the air. The temperature hovered around the mark of 17 degrees, giving a warm embrace to the eager runners who gathered in Viale Milite Ignoto. A precise count of the Alexandrians present was yet to be determined, but it was clear that the usual pre-pandemic masses had returned.

Serpentine Journey

The 29th annual city race began at 10:10 for the competitive runners, while the less competitive participants followed a few minutes later. The endless wave of participants winded through Viale Milite Ignoto, Via Mazzini, Piazza Libertà, Via Dante, Corso Lamarmora, Corso Cento Cannoni, Via Cavour, Via dei Martiri, Via Legnano, Via Trotti, Via Vochieri, Corso Monferrato, Via Santa Maria di Castello, Via Guasco, and Piazza Divina Provvidenza before looping back to Parco Carrà.

Social Impact

The area reverberated with peaceful distractions. "Seeing people smile despite the city being congested on Sunday morning," commented Giovanni Mercurio from Ics-Ets, the organization collaborating with the Municipality, "suggests that this event carries a significant value, particularly for society. Not to mention the numerous projects associated with the event, including scholarships and the well for bringing water to Guinea." The essence of brotherhood was palpable on Saturday when the Volunteer Village's booths were thronged with people, particularly the youth. Everyone had a tale to narrate, a means to inspire others and motivate them to engage in social endeavors and perform good deeds.

Podium Moments

StrAlessandria wasn't only about the spirit of camaraderie, it was also the fourth stage of the regional Dodecarun circuit. Thus, Gabriele Roselli from Novara and Sofia Cafasso from Turin took home the first-place trophies in the male and female categories. "The race was fast-paced," noted Roselli. "The large number of participants fueled my energy. I am aware that this event is a significant milestone for the city of Alessandria, and it's an honor to be a part of its rich history. My performance anxiety did creep in a bit, especially as I navigated the rough cobblestones in the historic center. However, everything went well, and I achieved a time of 16 minutes and 38 seconds, averaging 3'08" per kilometer. Last year, I had a slightly slower average. But keep in mind that the race was shorter." Not long after Roselli, Cafasso reached the finish line, claiming her third victory in the Dodecarun circuit of 2025. "This was my inaugural run here, with many men ahead at the start," commented Cafasso. "The pace was brisk initially, but then I maintained my momentum, and in the end, I put in a strong push for a good time."

It remains to be seen what the future holds for StrAlessandria, but one thing is certain – it stands as a proud testament to the indomitable spirit of the people of Alessandria and their unwavering love for their city.

Sports analysis revealed that the average pace per kilometer during the StrAlessandria race was 3 minutes and 8 seconds, a marginal improvement from the previous year for Gabriele Roselli. Meanwhile, sports-betting enthusiasts might find an interesting contrast between the average time of 16 minutes and 38 seconds for the first-place male runner and the average completion time of 8,760 seconds for the 5,000 runners of all abilities, united by a shared spirit, in the 29th annual city race.
