Thousands of Malaysians stranded as floods paralyze Hat Yai region

Heavy flooding in Hat Yai and surrounding areas has left around 4,000 Malaysians stranded, though all remain safe. Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi, Malaysia’s Consul-General in Songkhla, is leading efforts to assist those affected by the severe weather.

The floods follow days of relentless rainfall, disrupting daily life for many. Stranded individuals have taken shelter in multi-storey hotels, with some facing power cuts and limited food supplies. Authorities expect the downpours to stop by Sunday, with water levels likely to drop by Monday.

As floodwaters begin to recede, affected Malaysians continue to receive aid from consular teams and local services. The focus remains on ensuring safety and restoring normal conditions as quickly as possible.
