Thousands of England flags were hung on the property to support the Lionesses, only for them to be torn down by an inconsiderate individual. However, our determination remains strong; we will not waver.

In the heart of Bermondsey, South-East London, the Kirby Estate has been a beacon of football support for many years, draped in flags for every major tournament since 2012. This tradition continued for women's tournaments from 2019, with thousands of England flags proudly displayed to cheer on the Lionesses.

However, residents of the Kirby Estate woke up disappointed on several mornings over the weekend, finding that their vibrant decorations had been cut down overnight in a shocking incident. A spokesperson for the Kirby Estate reported that someone had taken it upon themselves to cut down the majority of the flags, marring the spirit of the Euro 2025 celebrations.

The organiser of the display on the Kirby Estate insisted that people realise the Kirby Estate is extremely inclusive when they go to visit. Known for its large displays of flags and murals during major football tournaments, the Kirby Estate has showcased support for various national teams, including Spain and Portugal, apart from England.

The act of vandalism allegedly took place at around 2am on several nights. A reel of string was delivered to the area to replace the lost bunting, and the residents, with their indomitable spirit, have managed to strung the flags back up once again.

The Kirby Estate is also known for its inspiring murals. In 2022, a striking mural of former Lionesses player Fran Kirby was showcased on the Kirby Estate, aiming to inspire young girls to play football like boys. The street artists behind these murals are known as the Friends of Kirby estate, who have been instrumental in transforming the area into a symbol of football support and inclusivity.

Despite this unfortunate incident, the Kirby Estate remains a testament to the passion and inclusivity that football can bring to a community. As England secures a spot in the Euro 2025 quarter final and faces Sweden on Thursday evening, the residents of the Kirby Estate continue to rally their support, undeterred by the acts of vandalism.

  1. Despite the incident where someone vandalized the flags in the early hours, the Kirby Estate residents, with their resilient spirit, managed to replace the bunting and continue to display their support for various national teams, not just England, during the Euro 2025 football tournament.
  2. The Kirby Estate, known for its diverse football support, will proudly display England flags once more as their team prepares to face Sweden in the Euro 2025 quarter final, reinforcing their stance as a symbol of passion and inclusivity for sports, particularly football.
