In the midst of a 38-day ground offensive in Gaza, a United Nations commission has accused Israel's political and military leadership of genocidal conduct. The commission, appointed by the Human Rights Council, has called on the international community and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to fulfill their humanitarian, ethical, and historical duties by prosecuting Israeli leaders as war criminals.

The leading figures held responsible for the Israeli aggression include Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, who oversaw the ground offensive and military operations in Gaza. The commission's statement, issued on September 18, 2025, accuses Israel of a systematic policy of genocide through mass killings, widespread destruction, and forced displacement.

The average daily death toll during the offensive was approximately 93 deaths. Of the martyrs, 1,984 were from northern Gaza, and 1,558 were from central and southern areas. The targeting of Gaza City and the north by Israel was deliberate, aiming to empty and forcibly displace residents. The Government Media Office in Gaza Strip reported a total of 3,542 martyrs from the offensive.

Israel did not spare the central and southern regions, which it claimed to be safe humanitarian zones. The targeting by Israel was comprehensive and intentional, affecting civilians and their shelters. This policy is claimed to be in violation of international humanitarian law, Geneva Conventions, and relevant UN resolutions.

The European Union has proposed curbing Israel trade ties and sanctioning ministers over Gaza. Spain has also announced plans to investigate rights violations in Gaza. The statement renews the call for holding Israel's leaders accountable as war criminals.

As the crisis in Gaza continues, the international community, the United Nations, and the ICC are under increasing pressure to take action against Israel's alleged genocidal crimes. The fate of the Palestinian people remains uncertain, but the call for justice and accountability grows louder each day.
