Thousands flock to Dublin for the triumphant homecoming of the ladies Gaelic football champions
Dublin Ladies Football Team Triumphs Again, Receiving Epic Homecoming
The Dublin ladies football team added another All-Ireland title to their impressive collection, defeating Meath in a thumping win on Sunday. The team celebrated their latest victory at the Castleknock Hotel on Sunday night, with a large, celebratory homecoming in Dublin the following day.
The homecoming, postponed from Monday night due to high winds, saw thousands turn out to celebrate the team's success. Dublin City Council lit the Samuel Beckett bridge blue in honor of the champions, and the team's captain, Carla Rowe, claimed her fourth All-Ireland title.
Team member Hannah Tyrrell, who sustained a bad knee injury during the final with about five minutes left, expressed that her injury was worth it for the win. Tyrrell, who joined the team in 2021, is retiring from football after winning two All-Ireland titles with the Dubs senior ladies. She also played rugby sevens and was part of the Ireland rugby team that won the Six Nations in 2015 and played at the Rugby World Cup in 2017. Tyrrell attended the homecoming with her daughter Aoife (2), and her daughter appeared on stage with the cup, potentially a future sports star.
Team captain Carla Rowe found the homecoming overwhelming, being the first for a ladies team, and expressed enjoyment in every moment of the celebration. Dublin Lord Mayor Ray McAdam admitted it was not before time for the team to have a dedicated homecoming, stating that the team has made the city and county proud once again. McAdam also mentioned that the team is inspiring young girls and boys in attendance.
Since 2010, the Dublin ladies football team has won seven senior All-Ireland titles, including victories in 2010, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, and 2025. These homecomings reflect the consistent high achievement of the Dublin ladies' football team over the past 15 years, marking them as one of the dominant teams in ladies Gaelic football. The scale of these homecomings shows strong public and community support, emphasizing the importance of the team’s victories to Dublin’s sporting culture.
