Thousands of Celebrants Gathered on Sylt for Whit Sunday Celebrations - Thousands anticipated for Pentecost celebrations on Sylt island

Get ready to party, folks! After last year's commotion surrounding that infamous video from Club Pony on Sylt, the island's largest North Sea playground is once again bracing for a crowd of revelers during the upcoming Pentecost weekend. The trendy coastal resort of Kampen is also plotting a wild ride, with over 2,000 to 3,000 partygoers reportedly headlining there, according to Birgit Friese, Kampen's tourism chief.

Friese's chill vibes shine through

Tickets sold like hotcakes in bars and clubs for these action-packed four days, with the tourism chief confidently stating, "We can't wait to welcome a horde of young folks ready to groove with us in the village and on the island."

Historical data on Pentecost tourists on the whole island has yet to be disclosed. However, Sylt Marketing GmbH (SMG) announced that in May 2023, a whopping 101,907 people visited Sylt [1]. More recent figures are still under wraps.

Last year's dramatic video featuring disturbing incidents at Club Pony has undoubtedly impacted the planned Pentecost parties: the club's operator has promised to set up so-called "safe spaces" and entrance wristbands adorned with anti-racism messages this year.

Nazi slurs to "L'amour toujours" cause a stir

Reports suggest racists chanted offensive slogans such as "Germany for the Germans - foreigners out!" in rhythm with the dance hit "L'amour toujours" by Gigi D'Agostino at Club Pony in Kampen on Pentecost Saturday 2024 [2]. The video went viral, triggering investigations for suspected incitement to hatred.

Authorities in Flensburg have since dropped charges against three out of the four persons implicated.

It's worth noting that the racist slurs to "L'amour toujours" weren't an isolated incident. In the months preceding and following the island uproar, similar incidents were reported in various states.
