Thonberg-Rednitz Family Tragedy: Wife Dead, Child Severely Injured; Police Probe Potential Homicide with New Developments
In the quiet neighbourhood of Reudnitz-Thonberg on Fritz-Hanschmann-Straße, a tragic incident unfolded on the evening of August 18, 2025. At around 10:30 PM, police officers were called to an apartment where they found a 42-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy severely injured.
Sadly, the woman later passed away from her injuries in the hospital. The boy, initially life-threateningly injured, is now out of immediate danger and is currently receiving treatment in a clinic.
A 37-year-old male suspect, who has been identified as the father of the injured boy and the former partner of the deceased woman, was apprehended at the scene and taken into police custody. An arrest warrant for murder has been issued against him.
Investigations into the suspected homicide are ongoing, with the prosecutor's office and the criminal police working together to gather evidence. The crime scene unit is securing evidence inside the apartment to reconstruct the incident.
Residents in the area have been tight-lipped, with those approached declining to comment. Some windows of the affected multi-family house are closed, adding to the sombre atmosphere in the neighbourhood.
Police continue to be present in the residential area on Tuesday afternoon, as the investigations continue. The community is left in shock, hoping for answers and closure in this tragic case.
