Winter Sports on the Small Screen: an Unmissable Television Spectacle

Get ready, sports enthusiasts! The upcoming winter season is set to be a visual feast, with live broadcasts from the world of winter sports flooding our television screens. With a grand total of 1500 hours of ice and snow action, you're in for a treat.

The Winter Sports Season Lined Up for You

Starting from this weekend, you can tune into ARD, ZDF, Eurosport, and the subscription channel discovery+, and you won't be disappointed. Kicking off the festivities, the Cross-Country World Cup in Kuusamo will grace our screens at 10 a.m. on Saturday. This marathon broadcast session is just the tip of the iceberg, with slopestyle, Nordic combined, biathlon, and ski jumping events following suit, ensconced in a ambient 8-hour Winter Wonderland!

Winter Sports on Saturday and Sunday

The main broadcast days, you can bet your bottom dollar, are Saturday and Sunday. However, fans eager for even more action can tune in to up to four streams on the internet on Friday. The allure of the long broadcasts was enough to captivate 2.2 million viewers last season, and for some of the most thrilling sports, the numbers would swell to twice as many!

Extending beyond ARD and ZDF, Eurosport delivers an additional 1100 hours of programming, featuring 595 winter sports events.

Biathlon and Ski Jumping: The Darlings

It's no secret – biathlon is the undisputed darling of winter sports. The men's 4x7.5-kilometer relay from Antholz on January 22, 2023, was a record-breaker, with 5.147 million people watching in awe, alongside a whopping 31.7% market share! Ski jumping is not far behind, holding its own in the popularity stakes.

Prominent voices of Expertise

All broadcasters ensure the presence of prominent sports experts to provide insights, adding a touch of knowledge and class to the viewer experience. ARD and ZDF boast Arnd Peiffer (biathlon), Sven Hannawald (ski jumping), Felix Neureuther (alpine skiing), and Laura Dahlmeier (biathlon). Meanwhile, Eurosport champions the voices of Martin Schmitt and Werner Schuster (ski jumping), Michael Rösch (biathlon), and Vicky Rebensburg (alpine skiing).

Coverage of the Winter Olympics 2018

ARD and Eurosport will extendedly broadcast the Winter Olympics 2018 in Pyeongchang's lead area. If you can't make it to the event itself, tuning in to your favourite broadcasters during its lead area will provide a fantastic alternative, with the promise of more than 1500 hours of winter sports action including popular events like slopestyle, Nordic combined, biathlon, and ski jumping.
