This weekend, an unlimited, single-night marvel of circus arts is arriving in town, showcasing aerial stunts, contortion, clowns, and much more.
The much-anticipated New York City Circus Festival is set to take place this weekend at Bryant Park, from 6-9pm on Saturday, August 16th. This exciting event is free for all to attend and offers a unique blend of circus arts, including aerial performances, acrobatics, clowning, and dance.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot and are invited to bring a blanket for added comfort. The festival is part of Bryant Park's Picnic Performances series and is curated by Monique Martin, a renowned producer and art curator.
The New York City Circus Festival will feature a diverse lineup of performance troupes, each pushing the boundaries of traditional circus acts while emphasizing creativity and inclusion. Among the groups participating are Sxip Shirey Sound Action Ensemble, Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, ABCirque, Hybrid Movement Company, Dzul Dance, Company 29, and Minty Fresh Circus.
Minty Fresh Circus, founded by Monique Martin herself, promises to be a journey through time and space, using circus and dance as the forms with which to explore themes of liberation when it exists only through the imagination.
For those interested in learning more about the festival, information can be found on the Bryant Park website. It's important to note that no animals will be present at the show.
In addition to the New York City Circus Festival, Broadway Week is happening this fall, offering 2-for-1 tickets to shows like Hamilton and Wicked (advertisement). Whether you're a fan of the circus or Broadway, there's something for everyone in New York City this weekend.
