Get ready for an exciting and free event this weekend as the First Annual New York City Circus Festival takes place at Bryant Park! This celebration of aerial arts, vaudeville acts, clowns, contortionists, and more is not one to be missed.

Organised by Monique Martin, a producer and art curator, and her company Minty Fresh Circus, the festival promises to be a journey through time and space, using circus and dance as forms to explore the themes of liberation found only in the imagination.

Minty Fresh Circus, one of the organising entities of the festival, is known for its exploration of themes of liberation through circus and dance. In fact, Monique Martin, the founder of Minty Fresh Circus, has been instrumental in shaping the festival's lineup.

The festival's lineup is a diverse and talented group of performance troupes, each pushing the boundaries of circus arts. The featured performers include:

  • Sxip Shirey Sound Action Ensemble
  • Bindlestiff Family Cirkus
  • ABCirque
  • Hybrid Movement Company
  • Dzul Dance
  • Company 29

These groups combine contemporary choreography with old-school showmanship, all set to original music. Each troupe emphasises diversity, inclusion, and acceptance through their art forms.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, prepare (bring a blanket), and enjoy the show at the First Annual New York City Circus Festival. No animals are involved in the show, making it a family-friendly event.

The festival is part of the Picnic Performances series, presented by Bank of America. More information about the festival can be found on the Bryant Park website.

So, mark your calendars for Saturday, August 16, from 6-9pm, and head down to Bryant Park for an unforgettable evening under the big top! It's going to be a circus like no other in the city.
