Thirty Ukrainian drones were brought down over Russian territory during the night.

In the recent escalation of tensions between Ukraine and Russia, both countries have been reporting drone activities over their respective territories. However, a specific claim made by some sources regarding the interception of 30 Ukrainian drones on August 8 has been subject to scrutiny.

Contrary to some reports, the Russian Ministry of Defense did not issue a statement confirming the interception and destruction of exactly 30 Ukrainian drones on August 8. Instead, the Ministry reported multiple drone interceptions on various nights close to August 8, but not exactly that date or in the number 30.

For instance, on the night of August 17 to 18, Russia reported destroying 23 Ukrainian drones over various regions such as Tambov, Sea of Azov, Black Sea, Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Krasnodar, Crimea, and Rostov. On the night of August 18 to 19, Russian air defense shot down 23 Ukrainian drones over Volgograd, Crimea, Rostov, and other areas. The night of August 19 to 20 saw the Ministry reporting the shooting down of 42 Ukrainian drones across several regions including Voronezh, Tambov, Kursk, Bryansk, and others. Between August 8 and 15, the Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting 44 Ukrainian drones overnight, including over Crimea.

While the Russian Ministry of Defense frequently reports downing multiple Ukrainian drones over various nights in August 2025, there is no confirmed report of exactly 30 Ukrainian drones destroyed on August 8. The reported drone interceptions on nearby dates range mostly from 23 to over 40 drones.

In addition to these incidents, individual drones were reported to have been shot down over various regions, including the Belgorod, Saratov, Bryansk, and Volgograd regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported these incidents as well.

It is essential to verify information from credible sources to maintain an accurate understanding of the ongoing situation. The Russian Ministry of Defense encourages following important news on Telegram, VKontakte, "Classmates", and YouTube for updates on such matters.
