German Police On the Hunt: 30 Investigators Scour Portugal for Missing Maddie
Thirty investigators scouring Portugal for missing child Maddie
Take a seat and grab some popcorn, 'cause this tale ain't over yet. The search for the little girl who's been missing for 18 long years, Maddie McCann, is back on the radar once more. This time, it's the Germans calling the shots, and they've got a team of 30 investigators ready to scour three Portuguese regions. Guess what's got their attention? Some previously unknown videos and pictures, according to a tabloid report.
The hunt for potential remains of the three-year-old Maddie is concentrating on Praia da Luz, where she went missing back in 2007, as well as Lagos and the Atalaia region above Rocha Negra. The authorities suspect that Maddie was abducted and murdered, but no body has ever been found.
The search is taking place thanks to a request from the German justice system. German officials are joining forces with their Portuguese counterparts, and the operation kicked off on Monday. The plan is for this inquisitive crew to be on the scene until Friday, per the Portuguese newspaper "Correio da Manha".
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Word is that the Germans are also bringing in a fancy piece of tech called a ground radar. This gadget makes structures under the earth visible, helpful for ferreting out evidence that might be buried deep beneath the surface. Christian B., the German suspect in the case, was known to frequent the area around the time of Maddie's disappearance. Police even plan to search an abandoned house he used to call home.
The public prosecutor's office in Braunschweig reported on Monday that ongoing criminal investigations are happening in Portugal in connection with Maddie's case. But no additional details about the reasons behind these probes have been shared at present. Christian B. is currently in the slammer for a 2005 rape in Portugal, slated for release around the beginning of 2026.
Recently, an RTL/ntv reporter paid Christian B. a visit in prison. They found he was well-prepped, knowing exactly what to say and what not to after consulting with his lawyers. He declined to make a statement about the McCann case.
