Third round of French Open featuring Daniel Altmaier
Tennis at the French Open
In Paris, Germany's Daniel Altmaier has made history, becoming the first German tennis player to advance to the third round of the French Open. His victory came against Czech Vit Kopriva, with scores of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a hard-fought match that spanned 3 hours and 32 minutes.
The 26-year-old Altmaier’s impressive performance has set him up for a match against 21-year-old Serbian Hamad Medjedovic, scheduled for this Friday. Notably, Altmaier previously sent shockwaves through the competition with his sensational elimination of world number four, Taylor Fritz, of the USA, in his opening match.
Meanwhile, Germany's Alex Zverev has a chance to join Altmaier in the third round on Thursday. The third-seeded Zverev, currently the world number three, will face Dutchman Jesper de Jong in his second match at 11:00 AM CEST, broadcast on Eurosport.
Despite hopes for continued German success, the women’s competition saw an end to Germany's participation. Eva Lys was the last German to exit the tournament, falling to Canadian qualifier Victoria Mboko in the second round, 4-6, 4-6.
Unfortunately, no other German players were found in the third round of the 2023 French Open, per current search results. Consequently, Alexander Zverev appears to be the only confirmed German competitor advancing to the third round.
