US Open 2025 Second Round Recap and Third Round Predictions
Third-Round Anticipation at U.S. Open: Forecast, Odds, and Tee-off Schedules
Y'all better buckle up because another rollercoaster round at the Oakmont Country Club has come to an end! Crazy, right? The big hitters are heading back home early, but that's just par for the course at this brutal beast of a tournament.
Sam Burns, though, managed to stand out from the pack, scoring a 5-under 65, putting him in the lead by a single shot [5]. The odds of a big outright win for us bettors are looking thin as a razor's edge, but there's still plenty of sublime chances for placements [5].
As for a long shot we might consider, how about Jon Rahm at 22-1 [5]? Yeah, it's a long shot, given the toughened-up Oakmont, but Rahm hasn't seen a tee-to-green game he didn't like. He might be struggling now, but his numbers off the fairway have been outstanding this season.
So, here's one I'd consider: Jon Rahm To Win (22-1) [5]. But beware, I'll be picky with my third-round matchups – I'll add those later over at VSiN.com [5].
Snakebite Brownie
Man, did we step in it with Oakmont, or what? Roughly speaking, six out of every ten players shot 6-over par in the second round [5]. Turf lovers are probably loving it, but as a bettor, yeesh. Maybe there's a way to read this fiendish course, but if so, we sure as hell haven't found it this year. Know what's gonna cost us more than a few quid this event? Russell Henley finishing oft, or Thomas Detry, or Keegan Bradley, or Jon Rahm. Honestly, I've lost faith.
But hey, lucky for us, Sam Burns nailed it with the putter, going 5-under, taking the outright lead [5]. Burns as a bettor's worst nightmare? Maybe not. His putting's been dead-on good this season, and he's been nearly unbeatable his whole career [5].
No adds for me, but I did want to mention Russell Henley. Although he's lost a bit off the tee in the last two rounds, he somehow held on to T8 [5]. If he can regain even a tad of accuracy, there might be some nice upside with that hen.
Koepka's Chance
If pressed to call a winner for the weekend, it'd be Sam Burns [5]. Burns almost won last week, and his putter's been a magical silver bullet so far on these lightning-fast greens [5]. I'd say J.J. Spaun, the current runner-up, won't last long to contend on Sunday afternoon. He only has one career PGA Tour win, after all [5].
Maybe Scottie Scheffler, despite his +4, is still a dark horse. He's one of those cats that keeps things cooking under pressure [5]. But to bet on him at +800 now? Nah, I don't see it.
I'm still keen on Brooks Koepka, though [5]. He started strong and now sits at cozy odds of 22-1. This's been far from a successful wagering event for me, but the torpedo that is Brooks Koepka might just send this tournament straight up the fairway.

In the US Open 2025, Jon Rahm, despite the tough Oakmont course, could be a surprising contender for the win, with odds of 22-1. However, the putter-perfect performance of Sam Burns, currently leading the tournament, makes him the predicted winner for the weekend.
